Field Renovation Work
by posted 11/28/2018

Nash 1 Renovation

Each year a significant portion of your registration dues help pay for the maintenance and upkeep of our grass fields.

This year the BCC:

1. Added 25 tons of infield mix to SKS field and laser graded the infield

2. Added 25 tons of infield mix to Shunpike 2 and laser graded the infield.  DPW replaced worn sod.

3. Laser graded Shunpike 1 infield and DPW removed the basepath lips and resodded them.

4. At Nash 1, we removed all infield lips, resodded the infield edges and the area behind home plate and pitchers mound.  We also added 25 tons of infield mix and laser graded the infield.  Earlier in the year we replaced the old scoreboard with the new one.

Rich Terranova is also working on a new project to install sunshades over both Shunpike 2 dugouts.  Once the weather allows we will be digging footings for the posts for this project and installing.  We think the kids will really appreciate these shades during the hotter months.

As a result of all the off-season work, the fields should be in great shape for the 2019 season.  Until then please respect the locked gates and closed signs and don't use the fields until they are reopened in the spring.  Thanks!

An Opportunity For You!
by posted 11/14/2018

Ok, perhaps you're too old for the Navy, or you get seasick. So have you considered becoming a baseball umpire? Or know someone who would like to?

The BCC would like to pass along this note from Alex Skandalis, who founded the umpiring program we use for our Youth League and some of our travel programs.  If you would like to know more about umpiring please read the note below and reach out to Alex!

Dear Parents,

My name is Alex Skandalis and I am a co-owner of the New Jersey Sports Assigning Bureau.  You know our Company as the group providing umpires for your local baseball and/or softball league.  I write to you today with a unique opportunity for you to continue your love for baseball and/or softball through officiating.  Soon, your child(ren) will graduate out of youth baseball/softball, what a great way to stay involved, enjoy a game you have followed for years and continue your involvement in your local/surrounding league.  No experience is necessary initially, but you will have to sign up and attend a several week introductory class (one night per week), taught at a local high school in your county of choice beginning in January.  Training, uniforms and equipment will cost about $350, but game fees typically range from $50-$60 a game, meaning you will make back your initial investment in no time.  Umpires of all ages (must be 18+) have used this “hobby” to supplement their income, continue their love for the game and gain valuable exercise during the Spring and Summer months.

If this sounds like a journey that interests you, please reach out to me at .  The number of youth sports officials has decreased annually for the last five years.  We would love to get you signed up and on the umpiring journey.

Sincerely,

Alex Skandalis
